EYEGLASS COLLECTIONS.
The Lions Eyeglasses Recycling Program was adopted as an official Lions Club service activity in October 1994. However, Lions have been recycling eyeglasses for approximately 80 years.
There are nine Lions Club Eyeglass Recycling Centers in the US and six more in other countries. Lions volunteer their time and services to prepare your donated eyeglasses for distribution, cleaning and classifying each pair by prescription. All the used glasses are donated by caring individuals and collected from collection stations located throughout your neighborhood. All types of eyeglasses and sunglasses, prescription and non-prescription, are acceptable. Children's eyeglasses are especially needed.
The donated eyeglasses are distributed to needy people throughout the world. Recently our own BMW Lion Dr. Don Trawick visited Haiti where he help distribute eyeglasses to the needy.
The World Health Organization estimates that 153 million people around the world have uncorrected refractive errors.
Along with eyeglass the Lions Club recycles used hearing aids as well. The hearing aids are collected, repaired if necessary and placed with persons having solvable hearing loss and verifiable financial needs. The used hearing aids can be deposited in the eyeglass collection boxes or directly here in the Midlothian area to Central VA Lions Hearing Aid Bank.
